About
My name is Annie Luxton and I’m a Software Engineer. Developer. Programmer. Scripter. Geek?
A little history on me. I was born in Rome, Italy and have lived in Rome (Italy) , Lima (Peru), Mexico City (Mexico) and Wellington (NZ) since then. I finished high school in Wellington and proceeded to go straight to University. In 2002, I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. I stuck it out at university for one more year and completed a BSc with Honours in Computer Science in 2003.
After graduating, I quickly found myself working for Critchlow Ltd in Wellington, NZ, as a GIS Software Engineer. That is where I picked up my love of anything map-related, especially GPS. After a couple of years I moved into a Web Developer role at Trade Me also in Wellington, NZ. Lots of good times were had at Trade Me and I learnt a lot about working on a relatively large project with a really great and diverse team of developers.
More recently, I moved to Brisbane, Australia, in search of more sunshine and hopefully interesting work. I did a quick stint as Software Analyst at KBR where I didn’t really get to do as much programming as I’d hoped and so moved onto my next role, Senior Software Developer at Microgenx where I landed a 9 month contract. Working at Microgenx was great – the work was very diverse and included a lot of government contracts but best of all, I had the chance to work with probably the most interesting and most fun group of developers I’ve ever met.
After a bit of a holiday in South America where I got to spend lots of time with my lovely parents, I am now living and working in London, UK. I’m currently contracting as a .NET developer for a company called mFlow, working with some very talented developers, in a fun and very motivated team. It was awesome to be at mFlow when the application was launched. It’s still in beta invite-only mode at the moment but looks like it might be fairly big in a few months time. Might be worth keeping an eye on this one!!
In my spare time (WHAT spare time?!), I maintain a couple of other sites, namely TravelStash and PropertyStash. TravelStash has really taken off in the past few months with Karen and Joel (Biking to Build Schools) and Samuel Hagler (Ride For The Trees) starting to use it as well. I really hope people continue to sign up and use TravelStash – it’s so awesome seeing all my hard work come to good use.
Anyway… this blog is intended to be a place for me to put down some of my ideas and blog about bits of code that I have found useful or interesting. I spend so much time on my laptop that my mother thinks it’s become a piece of my body. Nah but really, I enjoy discovering new ways of coding cool new things and the web seems to be full of just that.
Please feel free to comment on anything in this blog! :)
